Buckeye Cookies
The Buckeye is the state tree...

illhavethesame:

Buckeye Cookies

The Buckeye is the state tree of Ohio. The nut that comes off the tree is in a spiky shell. When it cracks open, it resembles these cookies. There was a buckeye tree we always climbed as kids in my friends backyard, so I have fond memories of this nut. The cookie is WAY better though! If you have never made it, you need to immediately.

Cream together one stick of butter, one and a half cups of creamy peanut butter, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Slowly add one pound of powdered sugar. When it is all mixed, roll the peanut butter mixture into balls, about 1 to 2 inches in size. You can really make them as big or small as you like. I prefer to keep them small so there is a good peanut butter to chocolate ratio. Put them into the freezer so they can get nice and hard. Next, melt some milk chocolate in a double boiler. Dip the peanut butter balls in the chocolate using a toothpick. Set them down on wax paper to cool and harden. You can store these in the freezer in an airtight container for a few weeks. If they last that long!

Posted these last year, but they are definitely worth posting again! Enjoy!!

“Green” Birdfeeder

On the end of a piece of yarn, wrap some tape tightly to make it easier to thread. Tie a big knot on the opposite end of the yarn. String cheerios on until the string is full. Hang it from your nearest tree. The cheerios are bird food and then they can use the yarn in their nest! This is a great fine motor activity and perfect for earth day, a unit on birds, or animals in winter.

1st Amendment Foldable

I am taking a summer class and we had to make a foldable for social studies.
1. I printed out blank unifix cube worksheets and wrote the numbers on them. I got mine from Hubbards Cupboard.

2. Glue onto construction paper and laminate. I differentiated mine based on the kids levels, counting by ones, twos and tens.

3. Using circle stickers, I wrote the same numbers and stuck them on the unifix cubes. (If your cubes are solid, you can skip the stickers and it will be permanent. I would have preferred that but mine had holes).

Melted Crayons

1. Peel old pieces of crayons.

2. Put pieces into a disposable foil tin. Melt in oven at 250. How long depends on how many crayons you have, so keep your eye on it.

3. Pour into a lollipop mold. Mine were for Christmas, so they are snowmen and Santas. Put a little tape onto the holes where the lollipop stick should go first. I didn’t do this and a lot of the wax ran out of the hole.
